The Computer as a Teacher's Tool
Introduction
*Constructivism-it was introduced by Piaget(1981)
-it stresses knowledge discovery of new meaning,concepts,principles in the learning process
-various strategies have been suggested to foster knowledge discovery
-knowledge is constructed by the individual learner
Social constructivism
-Vygotsky stressed that learning is affected by social influences
-Dewey sees language as a medium for social coordination and adaptation
-the construction of knowledge is governed by social,historical and cultural contexts

Definition of Learning:C-students build their own learning

Learning Strategies-C-gather unorganized information to create a new concept/principle

-can provide access to information
-foster creative social knowledge-building
-enhance the communication of the achieved project package
Uses of Computer(as teacher's tool)
a)Informative tool-the computer can provide vasts amount of information in various forms
-the internet itself provides enermous database
-students can gather information for composition or presentation projects
b)Communication tool-can be very well be the key tool for video teleconferencing sessions
c)Constructive tools-the computer itself can be used for manipulating information,visualizing one's understanding and building new knowledge
d)Co-constructive Tool-the use of electronic whiteboard
e)Situating Tool-can create 3-D images on display to give the user the feeling that are situated in a virtual environment
-multi user domains or dungeons(MUD)
-MUD object oriented(MOOS)
-Multi-user Shared Hallucinations(Mush)
-A school-to-school or classroom is possible
